Labels sa
The Bwaan clothing label, design picture vs actual product. You can see that the woven label is not as crisp as the design image but this is because of the weaving process. It does however give an expensive feel to the garment.
A great Label or Brand is one that is immediately recognised and always in the sub-concious of potential customers. The term “Label” has been substituted for the word brand because your label and tags are your branding. So when creating a brand you need to create a distinctive label. When you think of jeans you think of Levi’s, Lee, Wrangler or Diesel because their labels are popular. Without the branding the product loses value, even if it is made by the same company, using the same materials.
Here is a video taken from CNBC which shows how labelling and tagging can give product a distinctive look and value.
Welcome to Labels SA, South Africa’s first online clothing labels supplier. We are the new kids on the block but we are far from inexperienced with ten years in the Clothing Industry and five years in printing and branding. Labels SA is a product of Lava Ink Custom Clothing and its birth was initiated by the great influx of requests for customised clothing and labels.
So why choose labels SA?
Choose us for one reason only! We offer a minimum order of 1000 units for your all your label requirements, the lowest quantity in South Africa, which means you don’t have to order 3000 labels (the industry’s norm) if you want to start your own label.
I found this article which may be useful to all of you are thinking of starting you own clothing label. It is written for the American reader but it applies to the South African market as well.
Creating a clothing label is quite different from starting a clothing line. The two are not interchangeable, but a clothing line will need a clothing label in order to go to market. An entrepreneur with no design experience can start a clothing label with a few simple steps. You just have to know where to look for what you want and what steps to take in the process.
Instructions
Step1
Take your label design from concept to paper. What you have in your head may not look exactly the way you thought it would when you put it on a label small enough to fit in the back of a clothing item. Keep it simple. Sometimes, just plain words are better than fancy pictures for brand recognition.
Step2
Go to uspto.gov/main/trademarks.htm and click “Search.” Click on the “New User Search Form” and enter the brand or label name that you’ve been working on. If the name is free and hasn’t been used, it won’t show up in the database. If it is close to a name someone else has registered, you’ll be shown a list of those registered trademarks and the status of their registration.
